1. Who we are

Notera is a personal study toolkit for notes, flashcards, quizzes, planning, focus sessions, and progress tracking. In this policy, “Notera,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the Notera project.

For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact us at alieflukman32@gmail.com.

2. What data Notera stores

Depending on how you use Notera, the app may store:

  • Profile details, such as your name, email address, school, grade, study goal, avatar, and profile photo.
  • Study content, such as notes, flashcards, decks, quiz results, planner tasks, exam dates, focus sessions, and progress data.
  • Preferences, such as theme, timer settings, daily goals, and other workspace settings.
  • Backup metadata, such as sync status, timestamps, and local workspace identifiers.

3. Local-first storage

If you continue as a guest or do not use Online Backup, your Notera workspace is saved mainly in your browser’s local storage on the device you are using. This means your data may be removed if you clear browser data, reset the app, use another browser, or lose access to the device.

4. Google sign-in

If you sign in with Google, Notera may receive basic account information such as your name, email address, profile photo, and Google account identifier. Notera uses this information to create your profile, show your account status, and connect your workspace to Online Backup when enabled.

Notera does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, or files in this version.

5. Online Backup with Supabase

If you sign in and use Online Backup, Notera may save your profile, settings, notes, flashcards, tasks, focus sessions, and quiz results to a Supabase database connected to your account. This allows you to restore your workspace on another device.

Online Backup is manual in this version. The Save This Device to My Account button uploads this device’s current workspace to your account. The Restore My Account to This Device button downloads account backup data to this device.

6. How we use your data

We use your data to provide the Notera study workspace, save your progress, restore backups, personalize your profile, keep your preferences, and improve basic app reliability.

Notera may display small ads, sponsorship messages, or similar support features in the future only to help cover maintenance costs. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your notes, flashcards, tasks, or study content for advertising.

7. Third-party services

Notera uses third-party services that may process data as part of running the app:

  • Google Sign-In for authentication and basic account profile information.
  • Supabase for authentication, database storage, and Online Backup.
  • Hosting and browser services to deliver the website and store local browser data.
  • Advertising or sponsorship services, if added in the future, to help support maintenance costs.

8. Data sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share data only when needed to run Notera through service providers, comply with legal obligations, protect the app from abuse, or respond to your request.

9. Data retention and deletion

Local browser data remains on your device until you reset Notera, clear browser storage, import another backup, or remove it manually. Online Backup data may remain in Supabase until you delete it or ask us to delete it.

Signing out does not automatically delete your local workspace or cloud backup. This protects you from accidentally losing study data.

10. Your choices

You can use guest mode, sign out, export your workspace, download a backup file, reset local data, choose not to use Online Backup, or contact us to request deletion of cloud data connected to your account.

11. Children and students

Notera is designed for students, but it is not intended to knowingly collect personal data from children where parental consent is required by law. If you believe a child has provided personal data without proper permission, contact us so we can help remove it.

12. Security

We try to protect your data using reasonable technical and organizational measures, including account-based access for Online Backup. No website, browser storage, or cloud system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, so you should export backups of important study data.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Notera changes. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
